About Bayside and East Bayside
Bayside lies between the Old Port and Back Cove, bounded by Forest Avenue, I-295, Congress Street and Franklin Street. Much of it escaped the 1866 fire, so it holds some of the city's earliest Federal and Greek Revival homes alongside the 1927 Art Deco Schlotterbeck and Foss Building, now apartments, and the 1969 Franklin Towers. Across Franklin Street, East Bayside runs to Washington Avenue between Marginal Way and Congress Street. Parts of it sit on land built up when debris from the 1866 fire was dumped into Back Cove, and it includes Kennedy Park, Fox Field and Mayo Street Arts.
